Condensed Procedure

0.25 - 0.5 g sample and 10 mL HNO3 (max 0.25 g for Oil)

Performance Criteria:

Heat to 175°C in less than 5.5 min.

Maintain 175-180°C for remainder of 10 min

Prescription Settings:

For six 120 mL PFA vessels 574 W for 10 min

For two 120 mL PFA vessels 344 W for 10 min

Note:

Nitric acid alone has been reported to be insufficient to stabilize antimony (Sb) (A16-19). Currently this method is being extended to include HCl to more accurately replicate the leaching of EPA Method 3050B which uses HNO3, HCl, H2O2, and H2O.
