Pre-heat crucible and cover to 550 ± 25°C for 1 hr. Cool to room temperature in a desiccator. Dry sample for 1 hr. at 125°C in convection oven. Add ~ 2 g of carbon black to crucible and determine initial mass. Place crucibles inside microwave ashing unit. Ashing at 550 ± 25°C for 2 hr for quartz crucibles and 6 hr. for procelain crucibles. Cool to room temperature in a desiccator. Determine final mass and calculate percentage of ash. |
